The complexity of oncological treatment landscapes lends itself to innovative research methods

Medicus Economics has deep experience in oncology that has resulted in numerous clinical publications, all directly related to cancer therapeutics. We have worked in chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), prostate cancer, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, colon cancer, multiple myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, renal cell carcinoma, and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Select projects include:

  • Analyzed SEER-Medicare data of patients with ovarian cancer to identify treatment patterns of lines of therapy, focusing on primary maintenance therapy
  • Examined effects of financial incentives and other product attributes on physician choice of anti-cancer agent to treat breast cancer using SEER-Medicare data
  • Analyzed private payer claims data to assess healthcare resource utilization and costs associated with non-adherence to imatinib (Gleevec®) treatment in chronic myeloid leukemia patients
  • Assessed the real world impact of genomic testing on chemotherapy use and health care costs in breast cancer using private payer claims linked to cancer registry data
  • Adapted global CEA and BIM oncology models to reflect regional health system context in Thailand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore
  • Identified KOLs from Singapore to collect local oncology data for model
  • Performed analysis and authored a manuscript about treatment decision-making between urology and radiation oncology specialties (e.g., surgery versus radiation for prostatectomy)
  • Developed internal decision making model on the cost-effectiveness of aromatase inhibitor for breast cancer
  • Assessed reimbursement issues for physician administered products in prostate cancer
  • Worked on multiple projects with oncology clinical experts at Dana Farber, Fox Chase, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mount Sinai, University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania
  • Published cancer-related researched in JAMA, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Cancer, Journal of Oncology Practice, Medical Care and others
